Book Family Farm

History

Established in 1984, the Book Family Farm began as a small pumpkin patch inspired by Grandma Book's need for a nursery school field trip activity for the school she directed. The idea was embraced by the entire community and soon became a setting for educational field trips that included horse drawn wagon rides, petting farm animals, learning about farming, and picking a pumpkin.

The Book Family Farm rapidly expanded in both popularity and size, outgrowing their 10 acre location on Shasta Avenue in Chico. Subsequently in 1987, more land was required, necessitating a move to the present 250-acre site along Highway 99 in Durham, California.

Within a matter of time the entire Book Family established residence at the farm, including Grandpa and Grandma Book, their 3 children, spouses, and 11 grandchildren. A true family farm! More acreage and the entire family at one location afforded us the opportunity to provide a wider array of activities and services.

2007 marked the 23rd anniversary of the Book Family Farms annual harvest festival and its interaction within the local community. Like our own family, we have grown and changed over the years and although it is our greatest wish to continue to be a part of this wonderful community, we have had to take a step back and figure out where that place is going to be. We thank each and every one of you who have passed on your well wishes and we look forward to the future.
